THE TALENT IS DISCOVERED, STUDENTS' WRITING INTEREST AND POTENTIAL IN THE LOVE OF LITERACY MOVEMENT PROGRAM AT SMPN 3 LENGAYANG

Literacy is not just the ability to read but can also be a writing activity. This literacy culture is very important to implement, especially in our school environment. Many students have quite high literacy skills but are not explored because we at the school have not been able to explore them.

There are many activities that can be done to encourage this literacy culture. such as continuing to communicate using technology online and encouraging our students to love reading and writing. Writing and reading are not just hobbies but are activities that are done repeatedly which eventually become habits that result in a love of literacy.

Familiarizing students with the culture of writing will be able to awaken their imagination about literacy and they will even become accustomed to reading and creating works through writing.

This program is a program allocated to teachers and students. I try to encourage teachers and students to promote literacy through writing short stories. This program is very good because it can give teachers and students the opportunity to become writers who will later make an anthology book. The author discovered that many of our students' talents and interests want to write, so they are very happy and happy with this short story writing program.

However, not all teachers and students can write and have writing talent. But the author continues to strive so that more students want to learn to write so that they become interested in writing and discover their hidden writing talents..

My students were confused about finding effective writing media, whether on a computer, in a book or on a cellphone?. However, by having discussions with students, we can share and answer all these challenges.

The steps the author took were quite simple but produced a very significant impact, among them:

  1. Socialize the short story writing program to students face to face by joining the class and creating a WA Writing SMPN group 3 Lengayang.
  2. Activate the WA group by providing advice in the form of video tutorials and internet links on how to become a writer and write short stories, poetry and rhymes.
  3. Students who have had a talent and interest in writing for a long time are very happy and immediately send one of their works to the group so that other students who are not used to writing are also motivated not to be left behind and ultimately also produce work..
  4. Hold meetings with students to continue to motivate students and provide material on how to write short stories. Apart from that, ask students to directly write short stories in their books.
  5. My students asked me to type their writing directly into the Keep application on their cellphones and after that they sent it to me.
  6. I started checking the contents of their writing by giving appreciation and constructive corrections so that their writing could be better.
  7. Some of my students' writing is displayed on the school's wall with the aim that it can be read by the entire school community so that it can become a trigger for them to become writers..
  8. I have collected and edited all of these writings which will later be made into a book.

The results obtained from this program are the emergence of new writers from my students. I didn't expect that my student had such extraordinary writing talent. They can write short stories even if it's just their first time writing. With several examples of writing from other students who shared them in the WA group and pasted some of their writing on the school wall, they were able to create writing in the form of short stories, poetry and rhymes. I will publish a collection of short stories through a book entitled "Me and My Students". And until now I have done a lot of work with teachers and students.

My students feel happy and happy because their talents and interests can be explored and they are proud to be able to create through books. So many of my students also want to write and create works which have a big impact on students' interest in reading.
