The Restitution Triangle makes students "Solution Makers"

early

Condition of students at UPT SD NEGERI 068008 MEDAN in the academic year 2022/2023, Many students commit violations. There are students who are often late, not having breakfast from home, do not bring drinking water, do not bring study equipment, not wearing school uniforms according to schedule, not wearing a complete school uniform, not doing the assignments given by the teacher, fighting with fellow friends, say impolite words, mocking each other and even taking things from friends without permission/stealing.

This condition is disturbing for teachers and of course disrupts the smooth learning process in the classroom/school. The teachers have tried to improve the students' conditions by reprimanding and even punishing them, but similar incidents are still repeated by the students.

As a teacher at UPT SD NEGERI 068008 While, I felt challenged to find a way to improve the situation. I decided to try practicing the triangle of restitution in my classroom.

Challenge

The challenges in implementing the restitution triangle practice are::

  1. I have no experience in applying the restitution triangle in dealing with violations committed by students.
  2. choosing an appropriate time for implementing the restitution triangle practice for students who commit violations
  3. encouraging the application of the practice of the restitution triangle to colleagues

Action

To overcome the challenges in implementing the restitution triangle in my class/school, then I

  1. strengthen my understanding of the restitution triangle by reading the theory of the restitution triangle and watching several practical videos of the restitution triangle on YouTube. I also asked fellow teachers at other schools who had/had experience in implementing the restitution triangle.
  2. Have a discussion with the student who committed the violation to determine a convenient and appropriate time to carry out the restitution triangle. Then I tried to do/apply the practice of the triangle of restitution to my students who were late for my lesson and to my students who didn't do the homework I gave them..
  1. Collaborate with the class 5B teacher to implement a restitution triangle when a student in class 5B commits a violation.

Change

After applying the restitution triangle to students who commit violations, It can be seen that students are starting to have internal motivation to improve themselves as a result of involving students in finding solutions/solutions to the problems/obstacles they face.. Teachers only guide students to become "solution makers" (finder's way out).

Through the practice of this restitution triangle, I feel very happy and proud of our students' ability to find solutions to overcome the obstacles/problems they face.

Students also feel very comfortable and happy through the practice of this restitution triangle, students can correct their mistakes so that they can return to their group with stronger character (Gossen; 2004)

Thank You

Healthy and happy greetings
