Increasing active participation in chemistry learning by using Learning Model-based LKPD Problem Based Learning in the Islamic boarding school environment

In the school I am sorry, is an Islamic boarding school environment that focuses a lot on Islamic character education activities. Besides that, Students are given the burden and focus to be able to complete all the achievement targets of the Daarut Tauhiid curriculum both from memorizing the Qur'an, habit of worship, character and faith assessment as well as academic assessment. The student environment is a boarding school, where there are limitations such as not using a cellphone, or limited space and time to explore. However, this becomes a challenge for teachers in planning learning. Apart from that, Daarut Tauhiid has its own curriculum in developing and instilling Daarut Tauhiid values, where every teacher must be able to insert these values into the learning process. In the context of the subject, There is still an opinion among students that chemistry is considered a difficult subject. This difficult assumption is proven by the students' opinion that chemistry lessons contain too many formulas, boring, and it is not easy to master chemistry lessons. In reality, it is in the chemistry learning process that the teacher is able, So far it is still dominated by teachers, that is, students gain an understanding of chemical concepts from the teacher's explanation (teacher centred). Students' ignorance about the use of chemistry in everyday life is the reason they quickly get bored and are not interested in chemistry lessons. Implementing chemistry learning involves the scientific process of obtaining a concept. The essence of chemistry learning itself includes scientific processes which in learning require interaction with real objects and interaction with the learning environment. For me, the challenges in achieving this goal include: ;

  1. Understanding of students' concepts at the previous stage. Because before understanding the periodic system of elements, Students must understand the concept of atoms. Meanwhile, in the previous material, students did not receive the complete atomic material in the independent curriculum. Teachers must carry out learning contextually so that students can more easily grasp concepts in chemistry subjects.
  2. Teachers are familiar with learning teacher centred (teacher-centered).
  3. Limited time for students for literacy in the library or via laptop due to regulations boarding.

In conducting the lesson, I also involved fellow teachers as observers and class X-2 students in the school year 2022-2023.

In the process of the action to be carried out, teachers make preparations such as looking for supporting literature and discussing with several fellow teachers. Based on the challenges outlined in the previous point, So here are some actions that teachers take;

  1. Answering challenge number one, about how chemistry conceptually feels close to our daily lives (be contextual) is for the teacher to use analogies and trigger questions about supermarkets. “Do you often go to the supermarket?? What are the conditions in the supermarket?? How the goods in the supermarket are arranged? Are the items in the supermarket arranged arbitrarily??
    The next question is, The teacher tries to make an analogy with the periodic system of elements in chemistry subjects. Where each element in the Periodic System of Elements is arranged based on similar properties, existential tendencies and reactivity. Like goods or food in supermarkets, they are also arranged based on similar functions, and its shape.

  1. In answering challenges number two and three in the challenge points, teacher looking for literature, reflect and discuss with other teachers. So that students are actively involved and can gain knowledge independently, So we need help with learning resources that can minimize the role of teachers but activate students more. Student Worksheets (LKPD) or is a printed teaching material in the form of sheets of paper containing material, summary, and instructions for implementing learning tasks that must be carried out by students, which refers to the basic competencies that must be achieved, until in his learning, Students gain knowledge by carrying out activities according to the LKPD instructions, not from the teacher's explanation.

The teacher concluded that to address learning teacher centred and lack of literacy time at boarding schools, teachers create problem-based teaching modules or LKPD (Problem Based Learning). LKPD is prepared based on the syntax that exists in the problem-based learning process (Problem Based Learning). The teacher hopes that having LKPD that matches the Problem Based Learning syntax will be a solution to several challenges number two and three which were written in the previous point.. In carrying out the action that will be carried out, teachers make preparations such as looking for supporting literature and discussing with several fellow teachers. The LKPD already contains trigger questions and an initial part that must be read. Then step by step in the LKPD following the syntax Problem Based Learning, from Overview until Reporting. What the teacher feels, This LKPD is based on Problem Based Learning, really helps teachers in student activities in learning. Besides that, The presence of LKPD increases students' enthusiasm for literacy when learning.

Contextual in learning chemistry with the material on the Periodic System of Elements this time, can be captured by students. Bagaimana setiap planet akan berputar pada porosnya, when God does not will ? What happens if God does not arrange order and order?”. Student activity is very visible in the learning process with the presence of trigger questions and other stimuli, The key to active learning is that the teacher should not easily answer every question that arises from the students, but should be directed so that the students can answer and draw their own conclusions, which are then corrected by the teacher himself if something is not correct..

Based on learning reflections carried out at the end of the lesson, The majority of students are very happy with the learning process that has been carried out and some can relate the material presented to the values of Tawhiid-an (Deity).

The impact of the actions that have been taken is quite effective. It is said to be effective because it is based on learning, The post-test results are quite significant compared to the pre-test results. Post-test scores (all above the completion criteria) quite significant when compared with the pre-test (12 students above the completion criteria), during the post-test all met the criteria values. It can be concluded that learning means sufficient understanding by students in terms of understanding or knowledge. Based on the teacher's assessment (colleagues and deputy principal for curriculum) assessing that Problem Based Learning-based LKPD learning is sufficient to provide an active learning experience. Only notes include the need to review the material on the periodic system of elements, whether it needs to be explained at the E phase stage or not and the material needs to be strengthened in the sequence of development of the periodic system of elements..
