USE OF CANVA COMICS IN FACILITATING STUDENTS' DIGITAL LITERACY

The presence of digital technology has changed the way we interact, Work, and learn. Today's young generation grows up in an environment full of technological devices and online information. However, behind this facility is hidden a great challenge in the form of digital literacy. Digital literacy is not just about the technical ability to use devices, but also about understanding, analyze, and participate intelligently in an ever-evolving digital world. In our school, almost all students have smartphones and I observe that they are active on social media, especially Instagram. I saw that they were very fluent in using various editing applications on cellphones such as the Canva application.
The younger generation is often considered to be “digital native”, but the truth, they still need guidance and learning to develop strong digital literacy. Some of the challenges faced by students in developing digital literacy include:: Information can easily be disseminated online, but the ability to sort and understand accurate and useful information is still lacking; Security threats such as phishing, malware, and data privacy is a serious issue. Students need to learn how to keep themselves and their information safe online. Meanwhile, the younger generation is familiar with technology, the ability to use creative tools effectively in a digital environment is an important aspect of digital literacy; and Understanding how technology works and how data is processed into information are important skills for the future.
To overcome the digital literacy challenges faced by students, Innovative and interesting approaches need to be applied in learning. One tool that can be used is comics, and the Canva platform offers an effective way to integrate creative and visual aspects in digital literacy learning.
The change that I hope will be that students will be enthusiastic about learning and use cellphones for more positive things, especially when studying. Besides that, they are also expected to have good digital literacy. Using Canva comics in learning brings several valuable lessons. The visual and creative approach in Canva comics increases student involvement and interest in understanding digital literacy concepts. Creating comics in Canva trains students in using online design tools, strengthen their digital creativity skills. The process of designing comics forces students to understand and organize concepts clearly, hone their analytical and narrative skills. Besides that, through comics, students can understand the risks and protective measures in the online environment in a more realistic way.
Using Canva comics is an innovative step in facilitating digital literacy in students. By combining visualization, creativity, and narrative in learning, This method can help students overcome digital literacy challenges and develop the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly complex digital world. Canva Comics is a powerful bridge between digital technology and intelligent literacy, have a positive impact in preparing the younger generation for a future dominated by technology.
