early
I teach at SDN Kalibaru 03 since September 2020. This school is located on the coast of Jakarta Bay 15 class group that had to study two sessions, morning and afternoon. This is because the school building is quite small. Only available 7 classroom.
That is why supporting infrastructure buildings are very limited. There is but very little. Good prayer room, UKS is also a very cute library.
Challenge
Apart from its small size, It turns out that this library is also not being used optimally. The existing ones are only used for student visits. Books and other sources are underutilized.
Students are less interested in class visit activities. This is because time is limited, the place is narrow, the place to read is crowded and the activity is monotonous just reading.
Ultimately, this causes students' literacy skills to decline.
Action
I want to promote literacy in my classroom. Finally I made a board game called JURLIT. Namely LITERACY JOURNAL.
How to make it: large cardboard paper attached to bags made of different colored cardboard. The bag is given the student's name.
Every day from Monday to Thursday, The student composes a piece of writing on a piece of paper (using various colored HVS paper) then rolled up and put in a bag according to each name.
The writing can contain poetry, short story, a shoulder to cry on, with, and others. The stimulus is the weekly theme. For example, Sunday's theme is nature, then students write on the theme of the sun, sea, mountain, and others.
On Friday, each student is asked to gather in the field for field literacy activities. Here students can read their writing. The student whose writing is the best will be given a reward.
In that field, Students can also show their skills in other fields such as dancing, storytelling, read aloud and others.
.
Change
Thank God for carrying out this activity, Students are getting better at putting words together. Literacy has increased quite a bit.
Moreover, it is integrated with field literacy activities once a week. Students are now active, creative and happy and enthusiastic when receiving lessons in class.
Mereka juga jadi lebih termotivasi untuk menambah pengetahuan baru dengan cara rajin mengunjungi perpustakaan school, happy to discuss and want to read books.
