FUN ASESSMENT: Student addicted quiz
There are always stories of ups and downs that accompany being a teacher in one of the remote schools. When students in the city are already fluent in accessing the internet, My students are still climbing looking for networks. Other circumstances, when evening comes, Urban students are busy with additional tutoring. While students in Salimbongan, had to rush to the garden to help parents. Two different sides of life. However, I'm sure both students in the city and in Salimbongan, they all have aspirations. Along with the development of time, the internet is starting to reach remote areas. And finally, 4G network was surfing to Salimbongan. Of course, this is a breath of fresh air for Salimbongan residents, especially us school members. Around 80% students have gadgets. As a teacher, of course I hope that with the presence of this network and gadgets it will be easier for students to learn. However, In fact, gadgets are more likely to be used for social media and playing games. Once upon a time, during class time, I get students having fun playing games outside the classroom. It's ironic to see this. The presence of networks and gadgets turned out to be a bomb for them.
Starting from that anxiety, I try to apply technology-based learning. Starting by introducing them to how to use gadgets as a learning resource. However, As time went by, several challenges were discovered. Some students cannot afford the quota, There are still students who don't have gadgets, and also the level of student understanding of science material is still low.
From this challenge, I took the initiative to design a technology-based formative assessment using the WhatsApp Auto application. Sounds simple, but it turns out that when applied in the classroom it really has an extraordinary impact. If all this time students have been using gadgets to make videos/posters and watch teaching videos on YouTube. That's no longer a common thing. However, Using WhatsApp in formative assessments provides them with new learning experiences. Students access WhatsApp by sending a certain code message to the "Fun IPA" contact., automatically they will get science lesson questions. Apart from that, they can also check their learning completion via WhatsApp Auto chat. By using WhatsApp auto, it can make it easier for teachers to check on students who are diligent in practicing questions. Because student chat activity is recorded on the "Fun Science" contact that I hold. Furthermore, another positive thing about using this application is that it does not require a lot of quota. Sometimes your internet quota even runs out, we can still access WhatsApp
Students received the use of the WhatsApp Auto application enthusiastically. This is recorded on the WhatsApp application. Some of them often access it to take quizzes. Not just one time, even several times. You could say they are addicted to quizzes. Apart from using WhatsApp Auto, I also always try to use other applications in carrying out assessments. From the results of using WhatsApp Auoto as a quiz media, Students' understanding also increased from before.
