Kondisi yang menjadi latar belakang masalah adalah keterampilan menulis siswa pada materi menulis teks laporan hasil observasi di SMP Semen Tonasa I masih rendah (berada di bawah KKM yakni 75), sementara keterampilan menulis sangat penting dikuasai oleh siswa sebagai salah satu aspek kebahasaan. Hal ini disebebkan oleh beberapa faktor, among them: 1) Minat menulis siswa yang rendah. Minat menulis siswa yang rendah ini tampak pada hasil tulisan siswa yang hanya terlihat sebanyak satu paragraf saja, sama sekali tidak mencerminkan laporan hasil observasi yang lengkap sesuai dengan struktur teks laporan hasil observasi. 2) Media pembelajaran yang tidak inovatif, media pembelajaran yang tidak inovatif (hanya menggunakan buku paket) membuat siswa tidak termotivasi dan tidak tertarik dan 3) Metode pembelajaran yang digunakan guru dalam pembelajaran tidak mengakomodir kebutuhan setiap siswa sesuai dengan profil belajar siswa. This school environment is used as a location to search for and find objects of observational study by students. This is done so that a differentiated learning process occurs, in accordance with student interests which is expected to have an impact on high student enthusiasm in observation activities, of course accompanied by checking whether the object is in the school environment or not.
