Good practice elaboration

Assalamualaikum good morning. Introducing me, Nurjanah Laila from SDN Kalibata 04 Morning. South Jakarta KGBN Activator. The theme this time is Sustainable Growth Educational Change Beyond the Classroom. On this occasion I will present material entitled Initial Learning Assessment as a Means of Recognizing Student Differentiation.

I captured this activity when I taught in class 5 in the year of 2022 Then. As a teacher in the early stages of the MPLS period, you do not immediately provide lesson material but first provide a diagnostic assessment. A diagnostic assessment is an assessment that is carried out specifically. What the teacher identifies is potential strength , students' weaknesses in the process of learning activities. By carrying out this identification, teachers can design learning activities according to students' conditions and competencies.

early :

In its application ,Diagnostic assessments are carried out by teachers at the beginning of learning activities. This is because teachers want to see competence and monitor student learning progress from cognitive and non-cognitive aspects. The results of the cognitive assessment are used by teachers as a tool to map student learning needs. In this way, teachers can determine learning strategies that suit students' conditions and competencies. Diagnostic assessments are divided into two, namely cognitive diagnostic assessments and non-cognitive diagnostic assessments. Assessment in learning is the key to maintaining learning independence. Assessment as learning, or called formative assessment, is important because the results show learning progress for teachers and students. With an understanding of the learning progress, teachers and students can make adjustments to learning and learning strategies to achieve learning goals.

Challenge :

The challenge is how to present material and learning methods that are interesting to students. Especially at the beginning of learning where students are not fully ready to learn , So it is necessary to present interesting and light learning material that does not require students to study hard. The initial learning assessment aims to identify students' readiness to achieve targeted learning goals . The results are used by educators as a reference in planning learning that suits students' learning needs and abilities. In my opinion, this challenge is not easy to present an initial learning assessment. Because students haven't studied at school for about three weeks. Assessment in learning does not necessarily have to be questions that must be completed by students. However, it facilitates and provides opportunities for students to participate in learning actively and happily. So that students can discover the concepts of the material themselves and conclude them. At the end of the activity, students felt satisfied because they were able to reflect on the process and results of their learning. In my opinion, this challenge is not easy because teachers must have teaching methods that arouse students' curiosity about their enthusiasm for learning..

Action :

For me, the actions we take are a solution to answer the challenge of how to present interesting and meaningful initial learning assessments for students.

I took an example when I conducted an initial learning assessment. There were students busy flipping bottles so that the class became noisy while studying. Finally I took the initiative and came up with an idea. Students sat on the floor in four rows. There were plastic bottles of mineral water in front of the students. I give students a cue. All students pay attention to the instructions I give. At that time I said that if I said "head" the students immediately grabbed their heads. Then when I say "shoulder", then the student must hold his own shoulders. Then when I instruct students to hold their knees , then the student holds his knees. Then when I said "bottle" , So students must quickly hold the bottle in front of them so that other students don't grab it. Indeed, the situation at that time required students to focus on the commands I said. The rule is whoever gets the bottle first wins. Then the loser gets a question and must answer correctly. Those who cannot answer cannot participate in the next game.

Then the game "Holding the Bottle" was played in a fun and enjoyable way. I watched them play happily and laugh. I also felt their excitement and cuteness. Even if it is served cool , it doesn't feel like they are studying. At that time it was the lesson material for Building Space Mathematics.

Learning :

What I learned is that making learning assessments does not always take the form of questions that are asked directly or written down. But it can be done through games. Educational games are very useful for reducing and eliminating students' boredom when participating in the learning process because of the fun characteristics of games, motivating and entertaining . Moreover, this learning assessment utilizes learning media that is simple but attracts children's attention.
