
Around 150 Educators from various educational institutions in Sleman and surrounding areas gathered in the forum Temu Pendidik Nusantara (TPN) XII the Kab. Sleman themed “Climate of education and climate education”.
This forum was organized by Teacher Learning Foundation along Nahdlatul Ulama Teacher Association Regional Management (PW Pergunu) Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), and supported by Sleman Regency Education Office as well as Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion DIY.
The activity that was attended by madrasa teachers, public school, and this pesantren took place on The Primary School, Sleman, on Monday (16/6).
Chairman of PW Pergunu DIY, KH Samsul Maarif Mujiharto emphasized his party's commitment in encouraging teachers to not only teach science, but also instilling concern for the environment.
"The teacher must be a pioneer of changes in behavior both at school and the community. The culture of protecting the environment must be a positive habit of everyday,"He stressed.
He said that this activity became a cross -border collaboration space. Pergunu DIY opens up space for anyone, regardless of the organization's background, affiliate, or belief.
A number of teachers from the Muhammadiyah and several non-Muslim participants were active in this activity. “The spirit of this collaboration reflects a joint commitment to advance education and respond to the climate crisis collectively,” he.
Kiai Samsul hopes, This activity was the beginning of the birth of the Environmental Education Movement in Sleman which involved various elements of the teacher, For the sake of printing a generation who cares and is ready to face the challenges of climate change.
Head of Sleman Regency Education Office, Black, who was present representing the Sleman Regent, convey the importance of the teacher's role as an agent of change in building environmental awareness from an early age.
"The teacher is the spearhead of the formation of the character of students. If early students are accustomed to care about the environment, then a tough generation will be born who is able to face the impact of climate change,"He said.
He also encouraged schools in Sleman to be an example in applying environmentally friendly practices, like greening, waste management, energy savings, and water conservation.
Coordinator TPN XII the Carb. Sleman, Ahmad Faozi hope, This activity is able to increase teacher awareness of the importance of climate crisis mitigation. "Through this activity, We want teachers not only to be instructors in class, but also a motorcycle driving a climate awareness in the community” he said.
“This is a tangible manifestation of cross -border education collaboration for Indonesia's greener and tough progress in facing climate change,"He continued.
Besides in Kab. Sleman, The Nusantara XII educator meeting in the regions was also held at 44 other cities/districts during June-August. Then on 11-12 October, The peak of the Nusantara XII educator meeting will be held at the Cikal Bulus School.
