Good practice elaboration

Before becoming a principal, I teach in class 1 SD. There are many joys and sorrows in teaching in the classroom 1. I am very happy, for teaching in class 1. It feels similar to teaching preschool children. Class 1 is the period of movement from PAUD to primary education. That's what makes me really interested in teaching in the classroom 1. But apparently, teach in class 1 it's not easy. As a teacher, Besides teaching, we also have to educate with heart. Moreover, I educate children whose social strata are in the lower middle economic class.

The first challenge is discipline and order. My aim in emphasizing these two things is to form the initial foundation in molding students' character. Because these two things are the key to success. So by instilling discipline and order from an early age it will make it easier for them to achieve their goals in the future. Therefore, I try to instill an attitude of discipline and order in my students.

Sadly, it's not easy. Because of his spoiled and whiny attitude. There are still many parents who spoil their children in class 1. Of course, There are some students who can be advised or persuaded to separate from their parents at the classroom door. But some things even happened. They are getting spoiled. They want to be constantly accompanied by their parents until they sit on their laps in class. This is what makes me continue to look for ways to overcome this.

The first thing I did was approach the children. Then I gave suggestions in a joking tone. To parents who always accompany their children, I say, “Can sit together with his child, but with the condition that you have to wear a school uniform too”. This is certainly very funny for children. So,The spoiled child felt embarrassed to be accompanied by his parents who were told to wear school uniforms.

With these requirements, some have changed. They are ready not to be accompanied by their parents. They also become more independent, discipline, and orderly. But there are still some who are not ready. This is what made me lose my mind. Meanwhile the principal always conveys, “It is no longer possible for parents to come and study with their children”. Meanwhile, there was one student who I couldn't handle. Just call him God. He would throw tantrums in class when not accompanied by his mother. His mother was at her wit's end. Until he said, “Please mother, do whatever you can to ensure that my child is disciplined. If necessary, please hit the child, it is important that he obeys the teacher”. But I don't want to do that.

I don't want the Gods to be a deterrent or revenge on me in the future. I also don't want Dewa to miss school because I was violent. In the end, I always persuaded God. Every day I persuaded him but it still didn't work. The child wants to come to study but the mother must be or stand at the door. So he always stood at the door even though he felt uneasy and uncomfortable because there was a lot of work that had not been completed at home.

Once upon a time the mother went out. As soon as his mother ran out, I quickly closed the door. Then I took the table, I barred the door with a table and bench to prevent him from getting out. But God apparently has extraordinary power. He was able to lift the table and stools that I had arranged. Then he ran out after his mother. This attitude then made his other friends feel disturbed. They felt disturbed by the unusual behavior of this child.

One semester, Dewa was always accompanied by his mother. His mother still always stood at the door until she got bored. Until one day I told a story in class. I made up a story about a baby who was still breastfeeding from his mother. I told him that every time a baby cries, he always asks for milk. So I give an idea that if someone wants to be accompanied by their mother all the time, it means they are still the same as a baby who always asks their mother for milk.

At that time Dewa also listened. He seemed embarrassed himself. Since then Dewa has never been accompanied by his mother, because he was embarrassed to be considered a baby who was still breastfeeding. With this event, I took lessons that a class teacher 1 or early grades must be good at telling stories, storytelling, or make up a funny story. Because this can be one of the keys to instilling good habits in students without having to force them or traumatize them. The valuable lesson from funny stories is that they are very useful because they can be immediately understood by students. They can immediately understand without feeling pressured or forced. Funny stories can also raise awareness for those who hear them. Because of that, We must often use funny stories when teaching so that it is easier for students to follow school directions and rules.
